SAFA designed this study abroad program as a unique opportunity for students who are interested in learning an international perspective on healthcare and sports science. This experience combines medical observations, educational tours and insight into medical and therapeutic practices as well as techniques used to treat athletes in various settings. Healthcare specialties, from physical therapy and personal training to professional sports training and overall health care are abundantly available here in Georgia by world-renown organizations such as Emory Healthcare and the Center of Disease Control (CDC). Our program includes visits to healthcare facilities, lectures from local healthcare professionals and athletic training observation in medical and corporate settings that include both preventative and rehabilitative programs. The goal of this experience to be broad in scope that will offer students a springboard into numerous career paths.
Students will have the opportunity to compare healthcare education and practices in the U.S. to that of their home country. The experience will allow students to explore diverse wellness systems, healthcare delivery models, and the ways health issues, wellness and injuries are communicated and addressed. By the end of the program, students will be able to compare strategies of health and training across radically different country contexts at global and local scale. For future healthcare professionals, this experience can broaden their horizons academically, personally and socially.

Program Components
We strive not to have a typical day within the program. Every day is a little different by design.
The program contains the program components below.
Expert 1-on-1 Interaction (1 or 2 sessions included): Our 1-on-1 interactions are
designed to promote collaboration, open dialogue and the sharing of ideas which create
a more natural, comfortable and more organic experience.
Corporate Speaker Series (1 or 2 sessions included): We have designed our
corporate speaker series with industry influencers as a means of sharing their
knowledge and expertise with participants.
Corporate Tour (1 or 2 sessions included): This is a unique experiential learning
opportunity that introduce participants into actual work environments and prospective
career paths within.
English Learning: English learning through a combination of classroom instruction and interactive English learning excursions.
Atlanta Sightseeing: Trips to famous Atlanta sites.
Whether its instruction with an elite dancer or a Q&A session with an industry icon, the benefit
is all the same. The knowledge gained during these sessions which can be adjusted to an
individual's unique passions and learning styles, are extremely valuable.
While working to make sure no interaction will be 100% scripted, our 1-on-1 interactions are
designed to promote collaboration, open dialogue and the sharing of ideas which create a more
natural, comfortable and more organic experience. Not only are participates able to present
preferred topics, but adjustments can be made in the direction of the interaction as needed to
make the experience most beneficial.
`
We have designed our corporate speaker series with industry influencers as a means of sharing
their knowledge and expertise. The reality is that students have their considerations and
preferences when pursuing career paths. In some cases, only after gaining first-hand exposure
can they gain the appropriate perspective. Through these influencer interactions, our goal is
for participants to adopt new ideas and preferences for their career aspirations.
Speakers interactions will vary in length, but all will include industry insight, personal
background and company overview. More importantly speakers will be focused on providing
professional advice and providing a truly interactive Q & A session as well. In some cases, we
offer sessions with multiple speakers to share information more informally.
`
This unique experiential learning opportunity introduces participants into actual work
environments and prospective career paths within. Typically, these experiences include a site
tour, an extensive Q&A session and a behind the scenes look of the organization with a key
staff member. The main objective of our tours is to provide a much deeper understanding and
lasting impression of an employer's brand.
Our tours are excellent early career development opportunities for those interested in
networking with employers, exploring various professions, and experiencing cross- functional
workplace roles. Along with unique perspectives into organizations, host organizations expose
participants to internal cultures and industry insight.

About Location: Atlanta, Georgia
Among the nation's fastest-growing metro areas, Atlanta is attracting newcomers from around the country and the world. 16.5 million people come to visit Atlanta each year. With a flare for the arts and entertainment, Atlanta offers a wide selection of museums, music venues and a thriving theatre, movie and music scene.
Atlanta features award-winning restaurants and chefs, iconic locales that rival any across the country - including the Tony Award-winning Alliance Theatre, the CNN Center and the Western hemisphere's largest indoor aquarium. In recent years Atlanta's centrality, vibrant music and movie scene, business climate, and gracious living have transformed the city into a magnet for young people from all parts of the USA.
The MARTA system is Atlanta's train system and has been a staple to the community. Today, MARTA is one of the top 10 transportation agencies in the U.S.
View the MARTA train map to explore rail lines and stations. Rail maps are also posted in all MARTA stations and inside rail cars. For more information, click here for an interactive map with streets, MARTA station guides and maps of each rail line below.
MARTA will be the primary option for 80% of the required destinations for this program. For any other destination, not on the MARTA transportation line, participants will be required to use other transportation options at their own expense. The DI advisor will work with you prior to arrival to assist with budget allocation for UBER transportation.
Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (airport code: ATL) is the only commercial airport in Atlanta. You will book your flight to arrive at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Atlanta. A SAFA representative will be waiting for you in the designated airport area sent to you by your SAFA advisor. You will then be accompanied to your living accommodations and will spend the first day going over the program's itinerary, a transportation overview, emergency and safety information and settling into your accommodations.
The following day will include an orientation to Atlanta, in-depth look into the itinerary, and the start of your program.
Discover what makes Atlanta so unique. Explore places to visit that are found "only in Atlanta." During your time outside of the assigned program schedule, you are completely independent to explore the city. In fact, we encourage it! We will send a link to all the cool things to explore and a weekly schedule of events highlighting exciting events happening around Atlanta. Whether it's our world-class aquarium or iconic Stone Mountain, Atlanta has so much to see!
